Though carp are feared and maligned in our otherwise great nation, this magnificent fish is held in high esteem in most of the world. Asian artists have created beautiful paintings of carp for centuries. Carp poems are not uncommon. Just google “carp poem.” (I recommend “The Carp,” by Yun Wang.) The grace, heft and toothsomeness of carp cries out for poetry. Enter in any of three categories: haiku, limerick and other (100-word maximum). The winner in each category will receive a Big River Carp Club t-shirt, a one-year subscription to Big River and his/her poem will appear in the July-August 2015 issue of Big River.
